"Change will not come from elsewhere — it will come from us."
These are the words our young fellows use to sum up the spirit driving Chora Congo's first cohort. Today, that commitment reaches beyond the classroom and takes root directly in the streets of Goma.
From Reflection to Local Impact
It all began during our first cohort's training sessions. Confronted with the major environmental challenges facing the city of Goma — most notably the proliferation of plastic waste — a group of motivated students decided to create the Goma Safi project.
Guided by our mentors, these young people learned to analyse a societal problem, design a sustainable solution, and structure a concrete action plan. But for Chora Congo, theory only matters if it leads to impact.
A Day of Action in the Streets of Goma
Recently, the beneficiaries of our first cohort took a decisive step: moving from mere observers to true agents of change.
Equipped with gloves, collection bags, and unwavering determination, the members of the Goma Safi team walked the city's main streets for a large-scale clean-up operation. From collecting plastics to directly raising awareness among residents and shopkeepers, our learners demonstrated that leadership begins with leading by example.
"Seeing these students roll up their sleeves to clean their own environment proves that young people are not waiting for someone else to solve their problems: they are taking responsibility," notes the supervising team on site.
Shaping the Leaders of Tomorrow's Congo
Beyond waste collection, this citizen-led initiative embodies Chora Congo's core mission: training a new generation of conscious, autonomous, and committed builders.
By turning abstract ideas into measurable actions, these young people prove that Congolese youth hold the keys to a cleaner, fairer, and more prosperous future. They are no longer simply students in a programme: they are the leaders shaping the Congo of tomorrow.
